Research interests span the areas of Quality of Life (QOL) outcomes for children with genitourinary
birth anomalies or conditions including pediatric urological and pediatric endocrinological patients and their parents. Dr. Reiner
specializes in psychosocial and psychosexual child development research in these urological and endocrinological conditions,
including psychosocial development and psychosexual development. Psychosexual development includes the following areas of interest:
- Gender (or sexual) Identity
- Developmental Psychosexual Milestones, including the sense of maleness or the sense of femaleness
- Genital function and appearance and its impact on the child's development in terms of having abnormal genitals and in terms of having surgeries on the genitals
- Urinary incontinence and function and the impact on the child's development in terms of urinary control, in terms of urinary incontinence-effects on the child's feelings towards the child's genital function and usefulness
- Anxiety about peer relations and social relations during development.
- Anxiety about sexual development and sexual function.
- Anxiety about psychosexual development including peer relations, relations with girls, relations with boys, dating, marriage, and sexual relationships.
