Infertility/Erectile Dysfunction
Infertility/Erectile Dysfunction Descriptions
Male factor infertility contributes to over 50% of the infertility problems experienced by couples who wish to conceive. Many of the causes of infertility are correctable. Dr. Sindhwani offers state-of-the-art diagnostic and corrective technology coupled with specialized training to solve male infertility problems.
Obstructive Causes of Infertility
All types of vasectomy reversals and treatments for obstructions causing male factor infertility are available through the OU Physicians Urology specialists.
Varicocele
A varicocele is caused by varicose veins in the scrotum and is the most common cause of male infertility. Varicoceles are found in approximately 10-15% of unmarried military recruits, in 35% of infertile men who have never fathered a child and in 81% of men who were once fertile but are now infertile (secondary infertility). A procedure called a varicocelectomy is the most common operation performed to correct the condition and improve male fertility.
Semen Analysis
Semen analysis is the cornerstone of testing for male infertility problems. This test provides important information about the quality and quantity of the sperm. The semen sample is analyzed for volume, viscosity (thickness), pH and color of the ejaculate, sperm concentration, motility, morphology and forward progression of the sperm. The sample is also examined for the presence of white or red blood cells which may indicate infection or inflammation. We perform both visual and computer assisted semen analyses (CASA). From this simple test, we can tell how many sperm are present, how many appear normal and how many are moving.
Sperm Harvesting and Preservation
Specimens are taken directly from the testes and epididymis in our state-of-the-art laboratory. Most patients with congenital causes of non-formation of vas tubes, or obstruction due to previous vasectomy or hernia procedures still have normal sperm production. These sperms can be obtained by simple outpatient procedures to be later used for fertilization. Dr. Sindhwani does different forms of sperm retrievals including no-incision needle retrievals in appropriate candidates. Facilities are available within our clinic for cryoperservation which is especially useful to cancer patients who are undergoing chemo or radiation therapy.
Vasectomies
Vasectomy is a popular form of permanent sterilization method among males. Dr. Sindhwani offers al types of vasectomies, including the no-scalpel technique, VasClip®, in which minimal dissection is done causing the least amount of scarring. Another state of the art innovation is the NO NEEDLE, NO SCALPEL VASECTOMY which drastically reduces the anxiety of the needle injection in these patients. Most patients are afraid of needles and injections in this area. With this technique anesthesia is achieved without a needle and with a pressurized spray applicator - a technologically advanced spray anesthesia, which minimizes pain and discomfort during the procedure.
