PGY3

In the PGY3/Urology-2 year, the resident rotates on three distinct services; the Presbyterian Tower Urology Service, the VA Medical Center Urology Service, and the Children's Hospital of Oklahoma Pediatric Urology Service, at four month intervals. During this year, the resident is responsible for ambulatory clinical assessments of urologic patients. Endoscopic skills are expanded upon to include expertise in ureteroscopy (flexible and rigid), nephroscopy, and percutaneous access for the diagnosis and treatment of kidney disease. Facility in reading urodynamic studies is gained. Skills in the preoperative assessment of renal transplant candidates and perioperative management of the renal transplant patient are learned. The resident becomes proficient in surgical repairs of inguinal or undescended testes, hydroceles, and inguinal hernias. Aspects of perioperative care in the pediatric patient, including fluids, electrolytes, nutrition, and intensive care protocols, are also acquired.
