PGY5

The PGY5/Urology-4 (chief) residents again rotate through the three campus hospitals; the Presbyterian Tower, the VA Medical Center, and the Children's Hospital of Oklahoma. Four months are spent on each service as a chief resident. Chief residents become accomplished in all aspects of urologic surgery and learn to make decisions independently under appropriate supervision. He/she is responsible for organizing and scheduling surgeries and procedures on these services, and organizing the academic activities of their respective hospitals. Major oncologic surgical skills, renal transplantation surgery, and reconstructive surgical skills are acquired and honed during this year. Final preparation for the American Board of Urology examinations is stressed. The chief resident is expected to have his/her surgical skills and fund of knowledge at a level that ensures excellent clinical care for both adult and pediatric urology patients.
